Material blessing or physical provision of God is something that many who does not understand have misinterpreted as spiritual blessing. In order to grasp what these two blessings are we have to investigate them by way of the scripture. The scripture has to be the umpire because in the scripture the meaning of material blessing is unequivocally spelt out. Also, in the same way, the meaning of spiritual blessing is overtly made known in the scripture.
The misconception built around these two blessings has created a lot of confusion among the Christians. As a result of this, those who have acquired material blessing of God think that they are blessed spiritually. Unfortunately, those who have obtained the spiritual blessing of God think that they’re not blessed by God. Material blessing as it sounds indicate that they are those acquisitions the eyes can perceive. In other words, they are tangible things one can feel with his hands. Material blessing are those things man can acquire in order to help enhance his existence on earth.
Material Blessings Sourced From God’s Creation:
Some material blessings are directly sourced from the creation of God and some are by-product of man’s ingenuity. The truth is that the acquisition of these material blessing creates certain level of differences between men. In the sense that, its presence brings in disparagement and sometimes unhealthy competition among people. The unhealthy competition it has created has led to greed and avarice. As a result, people do lie, kill and do all sorts of things in order to acquire them. That notwithstanding, it is important to point out that the source of material blessing is God!
Let us begin to look at some verses in the bible.
“And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.”
“And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, See, I have called by name Bezaleel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah. And I have filled him with the spirit of God, in wisdom, and in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship. To devise cunning works, to work in gold, and in silver, and in brass. And in cutting of stones, to set them, and in carving of timber, to work in all manner of workmanship. And I, behold, I have given with him Aholiab, the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan: and in the hearts of all that are wise hearted I have put wisdom, that they may make all that I have commanded thee.”
“The earth is the LORD’s, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.”
Material Blessing Is From God:
The above quotation says that the earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof. It implies that everything found on this planet earth proceeded from God. This is an indication that without God these things on the earth wouldn’t have come into existence. Like stated earlier, the material blessings of God are sourced out of the earth. Therefore, from the earth man gets whatever material blessing he desires. However, it is important to note that, these things were provided to man before man came into existence.
Therefore, it means that their availability was not of man’s making. This is to say that man has no hand in their availability. It was solely God’s decision without man’s contribution. The work of man is just to harness what was made available to him and gets the required satisfaction from them. For instance, man can pluck a mango fruit and decide to turn it into what his heart’s desire is. But the truth is that how the mango fruit was made is way beyond his sense of reasoning.
Talents And Creativities Are From God:
Again, in Exodus 31:1-6, God mentioned it to Moses that He has given specific talents and skills to certain individuals. In other words God gave these individuals specific vocations in order to make or manufacture items man might be in need of. Notice that for them to be able to make or manufacture these items, they have to harness the material objects God has provided via creation.
However, that they received talents from God means that the wisdom is of God and not of man. It is important again to note that these individual didn’t receive these talents because they know God. The word the earth used in the verse above (Psalm 24:1) means the entire world. So God is the owner of the earth and everything in it, man inclusive. This statement shows that the people of the earth no matter their race belong to God.
In this case, it’s apt to say that God distributes His wisdom, talents and gifts among men as it pleases Him, and in Him there’s no partiality. This statement supports the view that the material blessings of God are for every race on this earth.
Therefore, as many that are indeed serious and engaging their minds in creating and making things out of the provisions of God will have their desires met. For this reason, many nations of the world are harnessing more of God’s material blessing better than other nations. Also, for this reason many people are getting the material blessing of God more than others. So, the material blessings of God are for every one on this earth to harness irrespective of one’s race or colour.
The Material Blessings Are For All:
Since the material blessing is for everyone, what determines how much or well one can harness them is choice. Another important factor is determination. The passion and zeal that one has in a particular area or field plays important roles in determining how much or well he will acquire them. However, the level of acquisition of material blessings isn’t a yardstick to measure closeness to God. That one has enough of material blessing doesn’t mean that he knows God. In the same vein, that one doesn’t have enough of them doesn’t mean that he is far away from God.
Inasmuch as God is concerned, the material blessing is for every being on this earth, whether they are good or bad. Jesus speaking to His audience stated thus;
“That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.”
Like stated in the quotation above, the rain falls to the good and to the bad, it is left for them to know what to use the rain for. So if the good decides to stay put in his house and stays away from tilling the ground he will die of hunger. On the other hand if the bad decides to have a positive attitude and go to his farm to till the ground he will have enough food to eat in his house.
The Part Of A Believer In Christ:
However, to a believer in Christ, what really matters is not the material blessings though they are needed to make life easy. The material blessing are not eternal, they are transient in nature. Of course they can even pass away while the person that acquired them is still alive. Due to greed and avarice in the world, acquiring material blessings have become a snare to people. Through it, people are lured to do evil. Therefore, since they are not eternal, they don’t worth what a believer should give in for.
The truth is that a believer in Chris can still be in God and live a faithful life without much of these blessing. It’s apt to say that what matters most in the life of a believer in Christ is the spiritual blessing of God. Jesus speaking to His audience in the gospel puts it this way.
“(For after all these things do the Gentiles seek ) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”

“For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?”
