The Family Of God – Talking Christianity (Opinion)

Family of God:

Family Of GodFamily of God is a term that is very familiar to many people especially in the Christian fold. Somehow many understand the term family of God and many do not though they acknowledge that it exists. The question is,is there anything like family of God? Also, does God really have a family? If there is, what is the reason behind it? It is also important to know how family of God came into existence. Before we answer the aforementioned questions, we have to firstly understand the meaning of the word family. The word, family means in this context household. It can as well mean home or a place where one has his wife and children. This can be extended to close relatives. The term family of God therefore could be referred to as the household of God. That is a place where God and His offspring can be located.

God Gave Birth To His Children:

Family of God implies that the children in the family belong to God. That is to say that God gave birth to them. When one says God gave birth to them it means that the DNA and traits of God can be located in the children. The implication here is that in a supposed family of God, if the children in it do not have the DNA and Traits of God, they are not God’s children though the tag family of God is placed on them. Therefore, what identifies a family of God or qualifies a family to be called family of God is not the tag but traits of God in them. Let’s see how the apostles put it in the verses below.

“Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.”

James 1:18

“Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.”

1 Peter 1:23

Family of God the Proof:

Apostle James says, “Of his own will begat he us”. This is a proof that God gave birth to His children willingly. It is clearly stated that He gave birth to them by His WORD. In the Word of God contains explicitly the Seed or the formation of God’s character in any of His child. Hence, Apostle Peter went further to explain the nature of the word of God that gave birth to His children. He says that the word of God is “not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible”. Also, that the word abides forever in the life of God’s children. Therefore, the word forms the life of God’s children and as a result, it is easy or possible to see the traits of God in their lives.

Being a family of God is not by mere claims but by proof of God’s DNA and traits in them. No room for fakeness inasmuch as God and His family is concerned.  Let’s see how Apostle Paul puts it below.

“Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.”

2Timothy 2:19

The Formation of God’s Family:

Obviously, from the verse quoted above, it is clear that the family of God is not being by claims because God knows His family. However, the question of if God has a family should be answered. To answer this question, it is better we go to the scripture. Now let’s see what Apostle Paul said in the verses below.

“Wherefore I desire that ye faint not at my tribulations for you, which is your glory. For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named.”

Ephesians 3:13-15

In the quoted verses above, Apostle Paul made mention of two families. He said “Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named.”  Now, let’s examine the words used in the verses. From the quoted verses we deduce that there are two families. Also, that these families are located in heaven and in the earth. One striking and important point we cannot avoid to mention is that these families located in heaven and earth are named after God. This statement is very emphatic in its expression as regards to the ownership of the families. It is God that owns the one in heaven and in the earth. They are one family but separated by their locations.

The Unification of God’s Family:

However, it is important to say that these families that are in heaven and in the earth have the DNA and the traits of God in them. They are one family drawn from different tribes and tongues. They are brought together and made to become one race in Christ. Their unification is Christ. Though they are of different races, they bear one identity and speak one tongue in Christ. Interestingly, God created man and He wouldn’t like to force man to believe in Him, therefore, he gave man his own will. The will of man is what man uses to determine the course of his life. God does not involve Himself in the will of man, He allows man to decide what and what he wants to do.

Conclusion:

Though He created man and allows him to operate the way and manner he likes, He made His ways known to him. Therefore, in order to belong to God’s family man has to forgo his own will and begin to abide in the will of God. The will of God is encapsulated in Christ. Accepting Christ in one’s life is a proof that one has accepted the will of God. Those who have accepted the will of God (Christ) in their lives are called children of God. Before the inception of the earth, the will and purpose of God for man is that he should belong to Him!
