The Justification Of A Believer In Christ – Pastor Chukwuemeka Charles Asiegbu

Justification of a believer in Christ:

Justification of the believerJustification of the believer in Christ is totally based on his faith in Christ and not on his performance. Many believers in Christ are skeptical about their justification because they are looking at their performances. At the same time people also judge believers based on their level of performance. It’s very factual to state that it is impossible for someone to be justified by his or her performance. If performance should be the yardstick for justification it means that no one will be justified. Let’s see the way Apostle Paul puts it below.

“And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses.”

Acts 13:39

Interestingly, observing and obeying the Law of Moses couldn’t bring any justification to the people. This is because; such practice doesn’t have what it takes to justify anybody.

“Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.”

Romans 3:20

Hence the death of Jesus! Faith in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus brings justification to any one that believes. In fact for this purpose Jesus was raised from the death. Let’s see how Apostle puts it below.

“Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.”

Romans 4:25

Justification of the Believer Is Free:

Therefore, the justification of the believer is a free gift from God. It can never be by performance, no man’s performance can earn him justification. The verses below explain better.

“And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offences unto justification.”

Romans 5:16

“Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.”

Romans 5:18

Justification of the believer remains a free gift from God and as a result it requires no boasting at all.

“Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus”

Romans 3:24

Simply put, justification of the believer in Christ is the GRACE of God at work in his life.  The grace of God is activated in the life of the believer by his ability to have faith in the finished work of Christ!

“Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.”

Romans 3:28

The benefit of this is nothing but peace between man and his Creator. The result of taking a step of faith has yielded peace in the life of man. Faith therefore, justifies the man in Christ.

“Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Romans 5:1

It Is God’s Desire And Purpose:

The justification of the believer in Christ is not something that happened by accident. It is all planned out by God even before the foundation of the earth. It is in the foreknowledge of God. Therefore, it is the desire and purpose of God for man even before man knows it. Aptly, God knew that man will not have what it takes to justify himself hence God’s intervention.

“And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed.”

Galatians 3:8

Also see,

“Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.”

Romans 8:30

The above quotation should be the reason performances should not be the yardstick in obtaining justification. Justification therefore is God’s thing and it lies within the whims of God to decide. In the vein, man cannot be the umpire in deciding if a man is justified or not because he doesn’t have what it takes to do so.

“Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.”

Galatians 2:16

Also see,

“But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith.”

Galatians 3:11

Conclusion:

The Law of Moses only served as a schoolmaster in order to introduce to us what is the real deal.

“Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.”

Galatians 3:24

As a believer, no one has what it takes to condemn you, your justification is of God and man has nothing to do about it.

“And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.”

1 Corinthians 6:11
