Armour Of God:
Armour of God is an interesting terminology that Apostle Paul used to describe the tools believers should use for fortification. Apostle Paul used this term Armour of God in two places in the bible. And they are located in the same chapter. Let’s see the verses below:
“Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.”
In the verses above, Apostle Paul clearly said that believers and his audience should put on the Armour of God. The idea therefore, is that the believers should put on the armour of God, not God putting it on them. It shows that these armours are ready and have been prepared by God. The only thing needed of the believer is the willpower to put them on. The believers cannot just put on armour of God for the sake it. Apostle Paul in the previous verse in a way to admonish the believers encouraged them thus;
“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.”
Armour Of God The Reason For It:
This implies that the way to be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might is to put on the whole armour of God. In the same vein, he also stated the reason for putting on the whole armour of God. Let’s see the verse below:
“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”
In the verse above, Apostle Paul identified that there is a warring or tussling situation. And the situation is not between flesh and blood. He declared that the situation emanates from unseen forces or spiritual entities. Therefore, it shows that the warring or fighting situation is not something physical but spiritual. It is absolutely impossible to engage in a spiritual fight with physical warring tools and make gains. As a result, the whole armour of God the believers should put on are not physical things but spiritual. The benefit of putting on the armour of God is to make them be able to stand against the evil days. In the same chapter, Apostle Paul listed these armours as we can see from the verses below.
The Armours To Put On:
Firstly, he encouraged believers to have their loins girt about with truth. The question is why truth? The truth is the only factor a believer will anchor his life on and he will be at liberty. Knowing and practicing the truth liberates a believer from every falsehood entanglement. If a believer aligns himself on the trajectory of truth, he will be vindicated, irrespective of the situation. The truth is the belt a believer should use to hold his loins. In other words it helps the believer to strengthen his waist and stand firmly.
The second armour a believer is required to use is called the breastplate of righteousness. The breastplate of righteousness is the armour that protects the heart of the believer from devilish intrusion. The understanding a believer have that he has been made righteous, makes him to have an edge over sinful thoughts. The sinful thoughts are thrown at the believer in order to pollute the believer. The believer shares the righteous nature of God with Him and as a result his nature is righteous in Christ. See 2 Corinthians 5:21, 2 Peter 1:4.
No Situation Should Take The Believer Away:
The third armour is the gospel of peace. The gospel of peace is to be worn on the feet of the believer. It implies that in every situation the believer finds himself, he should match around with peace. The believer shouldn’t allow any situation to take him away from preaching the gospel of Christ. This is very important because his peace is established in the preaching of the gospel. The believer’s consistency in doing this will help him to remain focus spiritually. It is called the gospel of peace, which means the believer is not expected to preach violence messages. The outcome is that the gospel of peace will help generate peace in and around the believer.
The fourth armour the believer must imbibe in him is the Shield of faith. This armour will help the believer to be able to quench the fiery darts of the wicked. The faith of the believer is anchor on the words of God. The source of faith is by hearing the word of God. This means that the believer will of course by any means possible believe the words of God. Therefore, no matter what the situation is, the believer will not take his eyes away from the words of God. It is on record that by the words of God, Jesus was able to wage war against the fiery darts of the wicked ones. This the believer must imbue in himself.
Believers Are Fortified With The Armours:
The fifth armour the believer must possess is helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit. This duo will definitely help to fortify the spiritual ability of believers if gained in their life. The helmet of salvation is the crown of glory of every believer. The understanding that a believer is saved creates peaceful environment in and around him irrespective of the situation in view. The sword of the spirit is called the word of God. Therefore, the fighting tool of the believer is nothing but the word of God. The missiles the believers have are the words of God. He responds to every situation with the word of God and surely his position will be nothing but positive.
The last but not the least is praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit. The point is that a prayer less believer will definitely be a powerless believer. The only way a believer will generate power is through prayer. And nothing only praying always with all prayer but supplication in the spirit should be added. The supplication in the spirit is nothing but speaking in tongues. These armours help to buttress the spiritual ability of believers that incline on them and such will definitely be powerful.
