Covid 19 An Agent Of Fear Pastor Chukwuemeka Charles Asiegbu

Fear Of Covid 19:

Fear Of Covid 19Fear of Covid 19 – it’s not always about what happened to us but about what we have done with what happened to us. The reality facing us, I mean believers in Christ, is that there’s a lockdown. We have little or nothing to do in order to change the narrative. Therefore it is very imperative that we look inwardly and see how better we can use the situation to affect our spiritual growth.

Definitely, one of the things the enemy is targeting to destroy in this period is the spiritual growth of the believers. The evidences are everywhere. Sunday services have been cancelled. Midweek services are also cancelled. The probability of having house fellowship and cell meeting is very slim. In some cities there are curfews which imply limited movements. It is very deterring and distressing to know that you have been restricted to do those things you do freely. The truth is that you are in prison even though it looks like you are not in any.

The negative side of this lockdown on an average believer is that it might lead him away from God. If this Covid 19 lockdown continues, it might lead many believers to lose their focus on God. This is factual because the talk in town is nothing but Covid 19 and all attention is centered on it.

Fear Defines Where One’s Heart Is:

The minds of several individuals are etched on what the result of the day is going to be. Many are eager to know if the numbers of people infected are increasing by the day than they are in knowing about their spiritual growth. Though there is a lockdown, the atmosphere is much tensed, there’s so much uneasiness in the air. People are not sure what will become of them in the next coming days, there is so much fear.

The truth is that in the presence of fear no one acts in faith. What this implies is that so many, even believers aren’t working in consonant with the dictums of God. Thorough scrutinizing of the situation and the increase in the number of deaths we are having each day from different countries could be linked to the fact that fear has penetrated the hearts of men. One of the strong tools this virus is using to break men is fear. This fear is being spread through the various media we have in our homes and devises. One thing every believer should do in this period of time is not to give in to fear. No believer should allow the news making around to construe his life.

One of the ways to get one’s mind off the news is to get one’s mind fixated on God. Prophet Isaiah speaking in one of his prophecies stated thus;

“Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.”

Isaiah 26:3

Fear Of Covid 19 Signifies Lack Of Peace:

From the above quotation one can deduce that in the presence of fear, there is no peace. It is right therefore to state that anyone whose mind is stayed on Covid 19 and the news around it will not know peace. Peace is very elusive in the world today! On the other hand if your mind is stayed on God, you will have not just peace but perfect peace. It doesn’t matter if we attend services or not if our minds are stayed on God definitely perfect peace is assured. The antidote for fear in this period of time is perfect peace from God. This perfect peace should not elude believers because it has been embedded in them. The believer needs to accept the fact that the Spirit in him is not off fear. Apostle Paul speaking to believers stated thus;

“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”

2 Timothy 1:7

The word fear represents bondage. The truth is that no condition should put any believer in bondage because he’s not in any. Covid 19 means bondage that is why there is a lockdown all over the world. However, as believers it is mandatory we obey the authorities but we shouldn’t be instilled into the spirit of bondage. Again Apostle Paul addressing this issue of fear stated thus below.

“Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.”

Galatians 5:1

Take Your Mind Away From Covid 19:

Therefore, where we focus or etch our minds in this period of time will definitely define our stand and standard. The paramount thing to do is to take our minds away from sources of fear. Then begin to adhere to what Apostle Paul advises us to do below.

“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”

Philippians 4:8

I admonish that you take your mind away from Covid 19 and begin to think in line with what Apostle Paul said in the above verse. Definitely your spiritual growth will be intact!
