The Message of the Blessing and Abraham – Pastor Chukwuemeka Charles Asiegbu

Message of the Blessing:

The Message

Message of the blessing – there is something we have to ascertain in a nutshell as regards to faith. And that’s, the message of the blessing wouldn’t settle in the receiver’s heart if faith isn’t induced in it. This implies that it comes with faith.  It’s important to state that one can only receive faith by hearing the message of the blessing. In the case of Abraham the content of the message of the blessing helped to ignite faith in him. Let’s take a look at what God said to Abraham again,

“And, behold, the word of the LORD came unto him, saying, This shall not be thine heir; but he that shall come forth out of thine own bowels shall be thine heir. And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be.”

Genesis 15:4-5

The Message Of The Blessing Resuscitates:

This message is a message of hope, restoration and liberty to Abraham. This is good news and it revives a sagging spirit. It shows again that the righteousness obtained by Abraham from God was the righteousness of faith.  It wasn’t the righteousness of doing; so by faith Abraham became justified. Which faith now? Faith in the words spoken to him and by this faith he grasp on the blessing in the message.

This implies that for one to obtain any blessing from God it must be obtained by faith. The message of the blessing is rooted on faith. Now watch this, if it isn’t obtained by doing, it means that the act of the blessing from God is an act of God’s grace. This is because Abraham did nothing to obtain the blessing but his believe in the words spoken to him. The blessing therefore is the Grace of and the vehicle that carries it to the receiver is faith.

So the blessing is a product of God’s grace which is received by faith by the recipient see (Romans 5:2). This is an indication that Abraham and many of his likes in the beginning and Old Testament operated under the atmosphere of grace. They received everything they had by grace, because one can only be blessed of God by grace not by conditions. Also, one can only receive what grace has offered or done by faith. In the atmosphere of conditions or laws one cannot be blessed or cannot receive the blessing of God. Whatever one obtains in that atmosphere becomes a product of his or her works. This is because he or she did something in other to obtain it.

The Blessing Of God Is By Works:

Therefore, the blessing of God doesn’t come by works but comes by spoken word which is received by faith. It becomes important because without faith in the words or what God has done one cannot please God. If you cannot please God there is no way you can obtain the blessing of God. Let me clarify something here, one’s faith doesn’t move or please God. But by one’s faith grace of God is being explore. God is moved by Grace which is His nature.

Therefore it is apt to say that God cannot do something because of what someone has done. But He has done something before someone by an act of faith explores the grace that was available and things begin to manifest. Hear this, if God does something based on what someone has done, it means He can react and can be emotional. And on the other hand, if God can react He is not God (Isaiah 46:10). The fact is that God is pro-act. It’s fitting to say that God cannot and would not have reacted because God is not erratic in His nature.

I said that to say this, that if God is erratic or can react it means that God’s nature of foreknowledge is tainted and we know for sure that God cannot change, see (Jeremiah 1:5). This therefore by implication means whatever God has done He has done it before hand. It is left for one through the act of faith to receive what has been completed by God even before the foundation of the earth. See (Ephesians 1:4, 11).

The Message Of The Blessing Is Not A Reaction:

So God saying such words like;

“And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing”

Genesis 12:2

It means God knew Abraham beforehand and knew that He was going to be blessed by Him. There is something we have to take note of and that is, when the blessing comes upon anyone, he or she became the symbol of the blessing. I mean he becomes the blessing and everyone or anyone looking at him will see nothing but the blessing. Remember, the blessing is of God, I mean God’s blessing, which makes it part of God or God’s character. Therefore, if one becomes a blessing, it means he or she exhibits the character of God. In that case he or she represents God, people see God through him.

The Man In Christ – Very Interesting Teaching

However, the blessing of God is the gift of righteousness which is obtainable by faith in the promises of God. The promise of God as regard to the people of old is pivoted around what God will do in Christ. The message of the blessing is not what God has done in Christ See (2 Corinthians 1:19 – 21). This suggests that the blessing of God here is revealed in the shadows and not in the object. Therefore, the faith to obtain the blessing is rooted around the shadows or figure that represents the object and as a result righteousness is given to them.

The Blessing Brings Righteousness:

Therefore, if the blessing is the gift of righteousness, it means that righteousness is empowerment. That is the empowerment to have the right standing before God. So the blessing Abraham received was actually the empowerment to have the right standing before God. This is in order to speak and declare things without any sense of guilt. Confidently, I want to declare to you that such a man is the most blessed of all men on this planet earth.

It has been the nature of God to always bless. There is nothing else that comes from God except blessing. Before the foundation of the earth, He has mapped out the earth and blessed it. And before bringing man into existence in this earth He has chosen to bless man and truly He gave man all that man needed for existence in this earth.

“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.”

(Genesis 1:27 – 28)

It’s the character of God and God cannot change, therefore this character is consistence and cannot because of anything change. If there is any way this blessing is not noticed in the life of an individual it is not God’s making but that individual’s inability to understand and make use of what God has made available.

God has Been Moved before Life Began:

The blessing Abraham received has been there even before the earth. It was not like God saw Abraham and decided to bless him. Abraham did not move God to bless him; that would mean that God reacted to certain things that he did. No, God has been moved before eternity. And because of that He knew Abraham and has predestined him for the blessing. But there’s one thing God couldn’t do for Abraham, and that is to decide for him in receiving the blessing.

This implies that God cannot impose blessing on any individual or group of people. The receiving of the blessing is depended on the receiver. This shows that the blessing is constant but the receiving is inconstant because it depends on the receiver. This is because God cannot invade the will of the receiver.

One thing containing in the statement of the Abraham’s blessing from God is that

“And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing”

(Genesis 12:2).

The Blessing Carrier:

The statement says Abraham will be a blessing, this suggests that since Abraham has agreed to receive the blessing, he will be the carrier of the blessing and others will benefit from it and as well become blessed. Remember the blessing of Abraham here is not physical things but the righteousness of God that he received. This is to say that Abraham becomes the carrier of God’s righteousness. Therefore, through him people are seeing the righteous nature of God and believing in God. In other words, before the foundation of the earth, God saw all that He created and made them righteous even before they knew about it. So the limitation is in the ability of man to recognize what God has already done and accept it.
