Why Is The Gospel Of John So Important? – Justin Torres

Gospel Of John Introduction:

Gospel Of JohnWhen we come to read the bible, we immediately notice that there are four different gospels. These four gospels were written by different men who witnessed the same story. However, they wrote from their views as well as to a certain audience.

For example, the gospel of Matthew is very well written for the Jews of that time.

The gospel of John is different. This gospel’s audience is the entire world. John writes this gospel for all people to come to know Jesus Christ as Lord and savior. John writes with the intention of all his readers to understand the scriptures.

Gospel Of John, The Purpose:

The most important point expressed in the gospel of John comes right out of John 3:16

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

All Apostle John wanted us to know, was that God sent His son, Jesus Christ to die for our sins so we can be redeemed. God knew that it would only be through the shed blood of His perfect son that mankind could be saved.

Our sins are so severe against a holy God that we could not possibly be in a right standing relationship with him without the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ. Because Jesus lived a sinless life in our place, He not only died for us, He died as us. God had a very specific plan for us to be saved. Because of man’s great fall in the Garden of Eden, this could only be done one way. Initially, man could be temporarily forgiven of sins through animal sacrifice.

Eventually, this would no longer satisfy God as it states in Hebrews 10:4:

“For it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.”

Five Reasons Why The Gospel Of John Is Important:

  1. It teaches us to believe in Jesus as the Son of God (John 1:18)
  2. It shows us that God loves us and sent Jesus to save us from sin (John 3:16)
  3. Jesus tells us here that he calls us his friends (John 15:13-15)
  4. It tells us that Jesus is, in fact, the word of God (John 1)
  5. We see the life and ministry of Jesus for us to believe in Him.

As you have read above, the gospel of John offers the reader a very rich view into the life of Christ. But, this gospel was not written just for us to know the history. This gospel was written to specifically show us that Jesus Christ is the son of God. And also, for us to understand his plan of salvation for us.

This was written for us to come to believe in Him for our salvation. Without Jesus, there is no way to the Father as He has stated that He is the way the truth and the life (John 14:6).

The gospel of John is important for the fact that it shows us that God wants us to be saved through knowing Jesus Christ as Lord.

In my love for you my dear family in Christ, I would like to leave you with this scripture out of John 20:31:

but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.
