Understanding Of The nature of God:
Understanding the nature of God has been a topic that has raised so much dust within the Christian sphere. This is due to so many divergent views many Christians have adopted in respect to this topic. However, this topic if properly handled, definitely the understanding of the nature of God will be divulged. The only source to create a better understanding of the nature of God is the Scripture. Unfortunately, many have the scripture and have read it but they have interpreted it wrongly. And from these wrong interpretations come the divergent views.
In order to create a better understanding of the nature of God, the scripture must be the sole source of knowledge. Anything outside the scripture should be seen and considered as an assumption. There’s no way a conclusive and proper understanding of a nature of something could be made possible through assumption. The truth is that knowledge built on assumption cannot be factual and exact. Therefore, for one to be factual and exact in creating better understanding of the nature of God, he must deduce his facts accurately from the scripture. In this case, the scripture forms the basis for accurate knowledge of God!
Understanding Of The Nature Of God – Layman’s View:
Firstly, to understand the nature of something, it behooves on the one interested in that particular thing to study the character and the making of that particular thing. Noting that, the characters of that particular thing mainly forms its description. For instance, if one wants to know the nature of Lions, he must go to the den of Lions and study their characters. From his studies he can tell in totality the way Lions behave and build better understanding of them. On this note, we understand the nature of God by studying and knowing what the scriptures have said about Him. Here whatever the scriptures said is final!
Let’s see some of the descriptions the scriptures gave God and from there we can deduce what His nature is like. In one of the Epistles of Apostle Paul, he wrote to the Ephesians thus:
“In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will.”
In the verse above our emphasis and attention should be on this line “who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will.” It says that God works all things after the counsel of His own will. This statement implies that God is a being that has His own will. That is, He has wills.
Understanding Of The Nature Of God Is Ascertained In His Will:
Furthermore, He works or do things after His own will not after someone’s will. This makes God a being that cannot be moved or cajoled because every decision He makes or made is built around His own will. In this case, nothing short of His will should happen if He is the one to do it. The will of God therefore, becomes the ultimate. The implication here is that anyone who wishes to do things with God should first of all seek to understand His will. Therefore, to create a better understanding of the nature of God one must seek to know God’s wills. This is important because the will of God forms the cores for His nature.
Note this, for God to do things according to the counsel of His own will, it shows that God is a focused being.
No wonder Apostle Paul made this statement below to the Colossians;
“For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;”
To Be Filled With The Knowledge Of God’s Will:
The prayer above is the best prayer everyone who seeks to have a better understanding of the nature of God should pray. That he or she should be filled with the knowledge of God’s wills. This is important because the nature of God is centered on His will. It stands that, the only thing that can move God is what is done within the counsel of His will. Based on this, it is apt to say that God cannot be cajoled by our prayers, cry, gift, service, etc.
But by the counsel of His own will. Things happened not because one prayed, cried, gave and served God. Things happen from God because it’s according to the counsel of His own will. The significance of this statement is that if prayer or anything should be made it must be in line with the counsel of His own will.
Now consider this statement which Apostle James made in his epistle made –
“Óf His own will begat He us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of His creatures.”
Outside The Will God Nothing Can Be Done Better:
Notice in the verse above, that the same statement “of His own will” is indicated. God begot the believers in Him as children by His own will not by the will of the believers. This is why Apostle Paul in Ephesians said it is by God’s grace we were saved. So a believer keys into what God has done and based on that he or she becomes a child of God. It is not because he did something and as a result that he becomes a son to God. The vehicle that carries the believer to obtain what God has done is nothing but faith. The nature of God is that His will moves Him not what anyone does or doesn’t do.
Another thing to ascertain in order to have a better understanding of the nature of God is the fact that God is a God of foreknowledge. This however, implies that God is a being that cannot be surprised or be taken unaware. Prophet Isaiah puts it better this way;
“Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure.”
The verse above is an interesting verse that everyone seeking to create a better understanding of the nature of God should always cogitate on. It says that God declares the end from the beginning. This makes God a being that knows the end before the beginning.
God Cannot Be Set Aback:
Therefore, nothing takes God unaware and He knows what will happen in trillion years to come. That is to say those trillion years are right before Him. Therefore, nothing happens without the knowledge of God. This nature of God should be etched in the heart of everyone seeking to have a better understanding of the nature of God.
In the foreknowledge of God, He knows every individual that exists on this planet earth. No one is an accident as far as God is concerned. By the counsel of His own will He created man. It implies that every man is the will of God. It also means that every man is a purpose, plan and idea of God. For this reason he has beforehand made provision for whatever man needs on this planet earth. He did this without consulting man, because He’s the God of all knowing and He knows whatever man might need and made them available.
So by the counsel of His own will, He made all things accordingly. The things He made are suitable and can always satisfy the needs of man. The salvation of man is something He knew even before the foundation of the earth was established. See Revelation 13:8.
The Spirit Of God Is Domiciled In The Believers:
Therefore, as many that keys into this program of God get saved. They become saved because of what God has done before the foundation of earth not because of what they have done. The ones that have accepted the salvation plan of God receives His Spirit domiciled in them. And by this He causes them to will and to do. See the way Apostle Paul puts it below.
“For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.”
As the God who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will, it implies that nothing takes Him away from focusing on His will. Also as the God that knows it all, He cannot react to something that just happened because He knew before it happened. If God reacts then He is not God!
