Advice To Fellow Young Ministers – Pastor Chris Onayinka

Mini – Advice To Young Ministers:

miniMini – Growing up as a believer, within what we referred to then as conservative Christianity was the pursuit to imitate Christ, as we believed from the very words of Paul

1 Corinthians 11:1 KJV

[1] Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.

However later emerged the teaching usually termed motivation, where a mantra soon hit the airwaves…

Dare to be Different… with much more psychological embellishments like “no one has your finger prints, etc.” (that’s kind of funny as it’s no revelation)

We dumped clear apostolic instruction

Philippians 2:2,5 KJV

[2] Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.

5] Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:

Philippians 2:2,5 KJV

[2] Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.

5] Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:

We hardly realize these births divisions beyond the ordinary and formed the basis of the conundrum in Corinth

1 Corinthians 1:11-12 KJV

[11] For it hath been declared unto me of you, my brethren, by them which are of the house of Chloe, that there are contentions among you.

12] Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ.

The apostles had a different testimony

Ministers Should Reflect Just One Person – Christ:

Acts 4:13 KJV

[13] Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.

They reflected just one person – Christ.

That said

My main issue for discourse here is how many younger preachers have been thus compelled by this “express  yourself “” your own thing ” ” your own message ” inspiration which has amounted to them severing supernatural relationships.

During a workers and leaders’ session in my local church, where I serve as pastor, I had the cause to speak along these same lines

I said ” you are already different, your name, background, likes, dislikes, clubs you support, kind of spouse you chose, career path, very unique experiences etc.”

This will definitely reflect in your personality, I actually with humor demonstrated some  peculiar nuances with many reeling with laughter.

This is rather auspicious.

With our different personalities, we aren’t permitted to have different beliefs.

Our message must align with each other as saying the same thing.

Ministers In The Old Testament:

All the Old Testament prophets had the same message.

Luke 24:25-27,44 KJV

[25] Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken:

26] Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory?

27] And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.

44] And he said unto them, these are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.

All ministers of the gospel must have the same message, even though depths and explanation might vary

Ephesians 4:5-6,13 KJV

[5] One Lord, one faith, one baptism,

6] One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.

[13] Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:

Paul instructed Timothy to ensure this

1 Timothy 1:3 KJV

[3] As I besought thee to abide still at Ephesus, when I went into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge some that they teach no other doctrine,

Hence I detest the use of the term “I don’t agree or I disagree” on doctrinal issues.

It’s either “I haven’t seen it” or “I haven’t understood it” or “it’s not true in scriptures” or “it is true”.

Hear Peter’s View:

2 Peter 3:16 KJV

[16] As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.

Understanding was the issue not subject to agreeing or otherwise.

In finding and discovering spiritual fathers/ mentors, we must be particular about doctrine.

2 Timothy 2:1-2 KJV

[1] Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.

[2] And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.

The same.

However, “the same” won’t be taught by “same personalities”

Many in the quest to assert their personalities and dare to be different have gone after strange revelations.

They assume People need to hear their own revelation.

They think it’s not good image to be found saying the same thing as another.

Many break away out of this ego to found ministries and churches.

Daring to be different!

Oftentimes it leads from one error to another.

I have seen some teach, use our ministry materials to build teachings and try to add to or take away, edit, re package etc. so they won’t be found out by their followers to be following our ministry!

Ridiculous! That’s worldly and carnal.

Are you competing? And with who?

2 Corinthians 10:12 KJV

[12] For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.

Ministerial Work Should Be A Goad:

All of us quote from writers of scripture!

I follow people too.

It’s very scriptural and healthy to follow.

Nothing odd in saying exactly what your pastor / mentor says all the time, since its scripture.

The truth is you will always say it your own way since your personality is different.

You shouldn’t go away from Gods will for your life as touching supernatural relationships because of ego.

It’s healthy to find someone whose teachings you can adopt and adapt to perfectly.

Timothy found his.

One thing is clear however, your experiences will be unique.

It always is.

Joshua followed Moses. He was his son.

Deuteronomy 34:9 KJV

[9] And Joshua the son of Nun was full of the spirit of wisdom; for Moses had laid his hands upon him: and the children of Israel hearkened unto him, and did as the Lord commanded Moses.

Joshua’s ministry was Moses’s.

But he had his own uniqueness.

He stopped the earth from rotating. God said “He never hearkened to any man like Joshua”

Moses used the rod part the sea, Joshua had the people cross Jordan without the rod

Whilst Moses asked the spies to address the congregation, Joshua learnt from it and asked them to speak with him first lest they spread doubt as they did in numbers 13/14.

The Ministry Of Elijah and Elisha:

Elisha’s ministry was Elijah’s.

Earlier on he served him

2 Kings 3:11 KJV

[11] But Jehoshaphat said, is there not here a prophet of the Lord, that we may enquire of the Lord by him? And one of the king of Israel’s servants answered and said, here is Elisha the son of Shaphat, which poured water on the hands of Elijah.

He poured water, everyone knew him

Just like Joshua to Moses

Timothy to Paul

Philippians 2:20-22 KJV

[20] For I have no man likeminded, who will naturally care for your state.

[21] For all seek their own, not the things which are Jesus Christ’s.

[22] But ye know the proof of him, that, as a son with the father, he hath served with me in the gospel.

He served Paul, He was his boy.

Everyone knew this

Same as Elisha,

He wore his mantle.

Even though Elisha had a different background.

Some Bible historians say He was older in age, had a wealthy background, such that he had to let go.

1 Kings 19:19 KJV

[19] So he departed thence, and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, who was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen before him, and he with the twelfth: and Elijah passed by him, and cast his mantle upon him.

Hence his ministry bore his personality.

He ministered Elijah’s ministry with his own uniqueness.

He wasn’t trying to be different.

Infact he was seen as Elijah.

2 Kings 2:15 KJV

[15] And when the sons of the prophets which were to view at Jericho saw him, they said, The spirit of Elijah doth rest on Elisha. And they came to meet him, and bowed themselves to the ground before him.

No Need To Try To Break Away, Wear It With Pride:

Even David and Solomon

We can go on and on.

Don’t stray from Gods plan because you want to be unique.

It’s believed Barnabas was called to follow Paul.

And ego got in the way.

We never hear of him again,

It’s not as if his ministry ended.

The Holy Ghost didn’t make it a reference anymore.

John the Baptist too.

He still tried to assert himself.

Kept breeding followers.

Just for ego!

Stay with whom and where God has placed you.

Your uniqueness will find expression.

Quote from your pastor copiously.

Mention the fact that he taught you and still is teaching you.

It’s not anti-Christ!

God places men.

The moment you are striving to be seen and known something is out of place.

A fellow wanted to leave a church, I asked him why

Is the teaching different from scriptures and yours? He said no

I said “you were given responsibility to oversee there”

He said yes

Are you planning to start a church? He said yes.

Why? Isn’t it the same thing you are already doing here you want to do when you leave?

He said yes…

I was miffed…, he just wanted to be his own man!

Soon enough he won’t want to be seen copying the said pastor…

He will try to introduce his own revs…

Off he goes, another doctrinal catastrophe in the making!

Simply because he couldn’t stomach copying another!

In Ministry Stay On Course:

He might even have cheer leaders urging him on as Rehoboam in scriptures as Ahithophel

Or those who tried to steer David off course

1 Samuel 18:7 KJV

[7] And the women answered one another as they played, and said, Saul hath slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands.

David only killed one person.

We might yield to such folks and see it as an abomination to be seen copying another in order to please our fans

Watch it the next time anyone tells you to be different.

You already are.

You are blessed
