Sowing Seed And Prosperity:
Sowing seed and prosperity has become an interesting topic in the church these days. The pulpits of many churches come agog with the preaching of sowing seed and prosperity. This is because many parishioners are always in tune and attentive to preachers dishing out the gospel of sowing seed and prosperity. They pay very attentive because that is what their itching ears want to hear. The preaching of sowing seed and prosperity tends to target their needs and how their monetary situation could be resolved. So this gospel seems to be the means to unravel their financial situation. And in it, the belief and notion that God will double their seed sowing is erroneously established.
Sowing seed and prosperity gospel is nothing but asking worshippers to sow monetary seed either to the church or the man of God. And the resultant effect of doing so will be speculative bumper harvest of money and other goods. For instance if someone is in need of a baby, he or she can sow monetary seed. And he or she can expect to have baby as a result of the seed he or she has sown. Therefore, if someone wants anything from God and in order to cajole God to do it, the person in question have to sow a seed and God will release his desire. This is what the notion indicates which is scripturally unfounded.
Sowing Seed And Prosperity The Motivation:
This implies that worshippers are motivated to give because they have it at the back of their minds that it will induce God to make their request possible. In that case, they are not giving or sowing the seed without expecting anything from God. And in many occasions many have been disappointed because, after sowing the seed they were unable to get results from God. And because of this, many have started suspecting the genuineness of God. The doubt created in the minds of people as a result of this has made them to stop attending services.
However, let’s begin to unfold this topic properly. Sowing seed and prosperity is something every believer should have the right knowledge about. The term sowing seed is an agricultural or faming term. The notion is that seeds are planted and they germinate to bear fruits and the sower reaps it. In this context sowing seed might not be seedlings or agricultural outputs alone but on a broader view includes other things like money, knowledge and many more. Therefore, a believer shouldn’t be left out in sowing seed and prosperity. Man in general involves in sowing seed because that is the way to survive in life.
Those in the sphere of buying and selling business, invest their money by purchasing goods and when they dispose their goods they reap the profits. And there are many who engage themselves in sowing ideas and this yields profits to them. Interestingly, the church is not a place one sows and reaps physical profits; this is because the church is not structured in that way. The church is not the business world but a spiritual enclave that has spiritual foundation established by God!
God’s Counsel In Sowing Seed:
Nevertheless, believers and unbelievers sow seed in the world, but the difference between a believer and an unbeliever is that the believer hears from God before sowing any seed. Whatever the believer hears from God is authentic and should not be subject to what the environment says. This statement is very important because a believer’s life is not dictated by what the environment says. Let’s see a man in the scripture that listened to God’s advice and he sowed his seed irrespective of what the environment says. The outcome is that he reaped multiple folds.
“And there was a famine in the land, beside the first famine that was in the days of Abraham. Also Isaac went unto Abimelech king of the Philistines unto Gerar. And the LORD appeared unto him, and said, Go not down into Egypt; dwell in the land which I shall tell thee of.”
“Then Isaac sowed in that land, and received in the same year an hundredfold: and the LORD blessed him.”
The above quotation is an indication that believers should seek revealed knowledge from God before in engaging in their business activities. Every businessman is happy making gains, and with God’s counsel profiting is guaranteed. So from a believer’s physical business engagements he makes material gains. Therefore, if a believer refuses to engage himself in business there’s no way he can make gains. Though he sowed heavily in the church, there shall be no returns on his money because money sowed in the church doesn’t yield returns.
The Benefit Of Sowing Seed Not Physical:
If a believer gives or sow monetary seeds in the church, it should not because he wants to make profit. If that is the case, it means a wrong notion and it should be rescinded. The believers plant and sow monetary or any seed in the church because it is their responsibility to do so. The church is the believer’s family and as such, his family must be maintained. The benefit of sowing monetary or any other kind of seed in the church is spiritual and eternal. Let’s see how Apostle Peter puts it below.
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you.Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.”
1 Peter 1:3-5
Also let’s see what Apostle Paul says below;
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ.”
The reality is that the activities of the believer in Christ in the church of Jesus Christ will be judged and reward shall be given. These rewards Apostle Peter called them incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away. This is important to note because, the material gains doesn’t have these qualities Apostle Peter talked about. The fact remains that ever material gains will someday fade away but spiritual blessings remains eternally.
