Foundation Of The Believer:
Foundation of the believer: The word foundation has caused a fussy situation and has been used to establish wrong doctrine. So we have situations where believers are asked to rebuild their foundation because something is wrong with their foundation. The fault is always identified with earthly family structure of the believer. So there is this talk about what the parents of the believer did. And even sometimes what the grandparents of the believer did.
Based on what the believer’s parents and grandparents and great grandparents have done the believer’s life is in shambles. This implies that the life of the believer is seen from the perspective of what the parents and forefathers have done. And since they have done wrong the implication is that his foundation is faulty. This kind of interpretation of that is given to the foundation of the believer is detrimental to the believer’s faith.
Let’s see the verse below:
“If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?”
Firstly, I would like us to examine what the word foundation is before we continue in the discussion. It means the basis, underpinning, base etc. Therefore, foundation is the place where you build on, and it carries whatever you build on it. Therefore, the foundation of any building matters. This is because the stronger the foundation the better the building and its lasting. For instance, the earth has foundation. Let’s this verse below.
“Of old hast thou laid the foundation of the earth: and the heavens are the work of thy hands.”

The Foundation Of The Believer Cannot Be Quaked:
However, it is possible that the foundation anything can be quaked by a stronger force. Let’s see this verse below;
“Then the earth shook and trembled; the foundations also of the hills moved and were shaken, because he was wroth.”
Also see verse 15.
Nevertheless any foundation that is strong, no force can quake it. This is based on the making of the foundation.
“Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock. And the rain descended, and the floods came, also the winds blew, and beat upon that house; then it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. Every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand. And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell and great was the fall of it.”
This implies that the word of God is the foundation of the believer. This is because according the verses above, hearing and doing the words of Jesus is the foundation of the believer. Also, considering the fact the word that gave birth to the believer, the believer’s life revolves around the word. Let’s these verses below;
“Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.”
1 Peter 1:23
“Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.”
The Nature Of The Foundation:
And it’s very important for us to find out the nature of the foundation of the believer which is the Word.
“For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”
Now Jesus is called the word of God, which implies that He is the foundation of the believer. Let’s see these verses below;
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God.Jesus is the word of God.”
Note that in the gospel of John 15:1-5, Jesus called himself the vine. And He said we are His branches and it’s obvious that the branch cannot stand without the trunk.
Now this is the plan of God, and that is all people of the earth should be called His son in Christ. Therefore, anyone outside Christ is not a son to God. Please see Ephesians 1:5-6, 9-10, Galatians 4:5-7, Romans 8:14-17. By this we are called members of His family, Ephesians 3:15. The foundation of this family of God is Jesus Christ. Also let’s see 1Corinthians 3:11-12, Ephesians 2:20-21. We are the living stones built upon this foundation, see1Peter 2:5. And we take our nourishment from the foundation; see John 15: 1-5, Colossians 2:18-20.
Christ Is The Believer’s Foundation:
So anyone that has been called into Christ has been separated from his family. That was what God did to Abraham as he called him out of his family. The reason is for him to have his own family that is rooted in God. See Genesis 12:1-5, 2 Corinthians 5:17-18. No believer in Christ has his or her foundation in the physical family structure.
And whatever that is telling in his family doesn’t have anything to do with him. Yea, there are times we have some manifestations of some certain things about the family in the life of the believer. The reorientation of the believer’s mind is needed here, see Romans 12:2. He should understand that his foundation is rooted in Christ. This is because the believers’ foundation is Christ!
