As A Believer before You Take That Job – Talking Christianity

Employment Opportunities:

Employment OpportunitiesEmployment opportunities come up once in a while and it is thrown to sundry in the society. The believers are part and parcel of the society in which they live. As a result when employment opportunities come up they are not exempted from harnessing the opportunities. Therefore, whenever employment opportunities occur in any strata of human endeavor believers in Christ are free to apply.

Thirty days of Glory what is it?

So it is not out of place to find believers in Christ serving in different capacities in different fields. Believers in Christ can be found working and serving in the military, police, banks and financial institutions etc. The implication of this is that in the society no one has the right to stop the believers from harnessing employment opportunities in their localities. There are two things that can stop a believer from harnessing employment opportunities. And these are qualification and the believer himself.

Can a believer be a castaway?

Paper qualification can disqualify a believer from harnessing employment opportunities. Another thing is the believer himself. This means though no one can stop a believer from harnessing employment opportunities but he can stop himself. Stopping himself comes from the backdrop of considering what it takes to do the job. And also what the job can take from him. If the job is not suitable for him especially as regards to his faith he must do away with it.

Employment Opportunities And Life In Christ:

Therefore, considering employment opportunities matter so much in the life of any believer in Christ. This is important because what defines the life of a believer is not the job he has. A believer can only be defined by the place he is found which is in Christ. Proper consideration of employment opportunities is very important because employments can redefine the life of a believer in Christ. Jesus while teaching in the gospel puts it this way;

“And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple. For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it? Lest haply, after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able to finish it, all that behold it begin to mock him. Saying, This man began to build, and was not able to finish.”

Luke 14:27-30

Also Jesus went on to relate this statement to a war situation as stated below;

“Or what king, going to make war against another king, sitteth not down first, and consulteth whether he be able with ten thousand to meet him that cometh against him with twenty thousand? Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sendeth an ambassage, and desireth conditions of peace.”

Luke 14:31-32

Evaluates The Costs:

The message in the verses above implies that a believer in Christ does not live by himself but by Christ. The life of a believer is not about him but about Christ. This shows that before a believer can take or consider employment opportunities he must firstly consider his position in Christ. It is important he evaluates and understand what such employment can cost him as a believer. This is because if it’s a kind of job that can pull him away from Christ he shouldn’t take it. A believer should pay much concern on this statement because it has much to do with what Jesus said below.

“So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple. Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be seasoned? It is neither fit for the land, nor yet for the dunghill; but men cast it out. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.”

Luke 14:33-35

Employment Opportunities The Pay Package:

It is true that one of the things to consider while harnessing employment opportunities is the pay package. Some jobs come with mouth watery salaries and such are tempting and the believer is not exempted from temptation. But above all it isn’t about the remuneration that matters but about the impact of the job to a believer. The indication from the quotation above is that any believer who takes job that pulls him away from Christ is not worth being a disciple of Christ. Therefore, the cost a believer should pay is to do away with any job that can pull him away from Christ no matter the benefits. Of course every believer will like to live larger than life. But it shouldn’t be on the expense of his Christ life. And truly the life of a believer isn’t consisting of the things he possesses. Jesus puts it this way while teaching in then gospel.

“And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.”

Luke 12:15

At the end it is not about how much you have accumulated but about much your life in Christ has affected others spiritually. But with such fatty salary the believer can contribute much to the growth of the gospel. Well, money is important but not really important to the growth of the gospel. What is very vital is a healthy spiritual life in Christ; this is the only thing that can create opportunities for the gospel to grow.

Employment Opportunity And Spiritual Life:

Lastly, the most important thing to consider before harnessing employment opportunities is the spiritual life of a believer. This is because if a believer loses his spiritual life, his place in Christ is questionable. Though the believer might be saved but he will suffer loss.
