Adviser – Once in a while in someone’s life he might face a very subtle condition in which he may be taken aback to do anything. At that stage he will be forced to search somewhere else for solution to the situation he’s in. It’s very clear that there’s only one person who is referred to as all knowing. And surely, there is always, some sort of shortcoming present in the knowledge of man. And these limitations require someone that has an upper hand in it to talk and dish out the right solution. This is where the job of an adviser comes in.
For this reason, in the political arena, the people in authorities employ special hands as advisers in different arms of government. The head of the government might be a medical doctor by profession for instance. There is no way he has all the required knowledge of what is best in the field of commerce/Agriculture. Hence, he will employ the services of advisers who are specialists in these fields for good governance.
These specialists are to stand by him always. Their job is to tell him what to do in order to excel in these areas of the government. Their advice and suggestions will have to be trusted by him to yield good results when the need arises.
Advisers Are The Pivot Of Good Governance:
However, how well he does in his governance deeply depends on the type of advisers that he parades around himself. If he has good advisers, eventually his government will be held on high esteem. The reverse will be the case if the advisers he employed are not up to the task.
Also, this is applicable in the spiritual life of a person. Even for a person who has his identity in God, his spiritual advisers will determine his level of spirituality. Care should be taken as not to approach bad spiritual advisers. If one does so, instead of traversing towards his true identity in Christ, he will be found walking outside Christ.
You Need A Good Spiritual Adviser:
“He set himself to seek God in the days of Zechariah, who instructed him in the fear of the God; and as long as he sought the Lord, God made him prosper”
2 Chronicles 26:5
In the Good News Bible Zechariah is referred to as a spiritual adviser. While King James calls him ‘a man that has understanding in the vision of God’. King Uzziah was favoured to have a good spiritual adviser like Zechariah around him. His benefits were outstanding. The Bible even says that as he continued to seek God’s face, he was prosperous in all that he did. But something happened later in the life of this king. We are further told that:
“Then Uzziah was angry. Now he had a censer in his hand to burn incense, and when he became angry with the priests leprosy broke out on his forehead in the presence of the priests in the house of the Lord by the altar of incense”
2 Chronicles 26:19
It is very obvious that somebody like Zechariah was no longer around Uzziah to give him good spiritual advice. The resultant effect of the step which king Uzziah took was leprosy. And if Zechariah was around this might not have occurred to him. Your level of elevation in life deeply depends on the caliber of people that you surround yourself with. A good spiritual adviser will hasten someone’s spiritual ascendency. Therefore, it apt to say that, the speed of someone’s growth in the things of the Spirit depends on the amount and quality of spiritually-minded people that he has around him.
Adviser You Need Matured Minds:
“So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam the third day as the king said, “Come to me again the third day.” And the king answered the people harshly, forsaking the counsel which the old men had given him, he spoke to them according to the counsel of the young men, saying, “My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add to your yoke; my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions”
1 Kings 12:12–14.
For your spiritual progress and elevation, you need to have strong matured minds as spiritual advisers. It does not necessarily mean having an old man as an adviser, but someone who is spiritually matured. Spiritual maturity has nothing to do with age or even educational background of the individual. But one who can be able to read between the lines in spiritual matters and give accurate spiritual interpretations. King Rehoboam failed not mainly because he went to the youth, or that he took the advice of the youth. But just because he went to the youths who were not spiritually sound.
In Considering Advisers Old Age Is Not The Yardstick:
In the other way round, aged men who were of the same spiritual state of mind like the youths would have given him a similar advice. A man called Jonadab, David brother’s son, saw his son Amnon lusting over his own sister. He gave him the idea to implement his evil intention over his sister. However, a young man who is spiritually matured would have told Amnon that such a thing was an abomination in the land of Israel. Jonadab failed to use his position as a close relative to both children but he supported the evil gesture. When it was time to reap his consequences, Amnon died in the hands of his brother Absalom. And this same Jonadab was the one who announced his death, knowing fully why he was killed by his brother. Be careful of some people who will advise you only to mock you later.
Read The Voice That Is Talking To You:
“Then the king of Israel gathered the prophets together, about four hundred men, and said to them, “Shall I go to battle against Ramoth-gilead, or shall I forbear?” And they said, “Go up; for the Lord will give it into the hand of the King”
1 Kings 22:6
Evidence or witness given by two or three people is confirmed (naturally), and then four hundred people should be absolute. Well, what we are discussing here is a spiritual issue and not carnal minded activities in the world. It is only in spiritual issues that one plus one is equal to one. Outside there in the world, it is a mathematical suicide and nonsense, and it cannot happen at all.
The majority of four hundred prophets are what I call the spiritually foolish majority. It takes a man that really hears God to know and understand this class of people. Even in the assemblies of God’s people they are there scheming and breeding out wrong things. The worst of it all is that they pull large crowds, following them as the majority. When there are spiritual issues to be unraveled, considering that they are the majority, they carry the vote. For this reason they support people that are not matured to be in a position in the Church. They use their position to stipulate and implement wrong ideas in the Church.
Spiritual Advice Is Needed For Spiritual Matters:
However, spiritual matters should be dealt with spiritually and not as majority carries the vote. The standing of one man proved the words of Jesus right, that one with God is the majority. Only a man that really hears from God can detect their pace and defeat them. This is because when they come like a flood the Spirit of God will immediately set a standard against them and their motives. A person who has the Spirit of God in him will never be their victim
If you trace the history of the visiting King, King Jehoshaphat, you will discern that he was a man that knew to God. He had a clean spirit unlike his colleague Ahab, whom God was angry with. It will only take a man like Jehoshaphat to say ‘No’ to the multitude of four hundred prophets.
“But Jehoshaphat said, “Is there not here another prophet of the Lord of whom we may inquire?”
1 King 22:7
What! After four hundred prophets have spoken? Which means, they were not prophets!. This man must be spiritually sound to be able to read the voice(s) that were speaking to him. The crowd might be wondering about what was wrong with this man. Is he insane? The majority had spoken, after all the voice of man is the voice of God.
God Knows How To Prove Himself:
However, God doesn’t need a majority to drive home His aims and objectives in a particular situation. God does not need to pull a crowd in order to convince people of His capabilities. One man is enough for Him. But the devil likes and tries to pull crowds towards himself. And attraction has been his tool through which he has been able to keep the crowds to himself. Jesus says in (Mark 4:24) that we should be careful who we should listen to. This is an important advice which we should not ignore.
The Right Source Of Advice:
As a matter of fact, we need to be advised in the things that we have to do in our day to day life. We actually need advice in all facets of our engagements. The business that we do, the marriage we have to sustain, and even the friendships that we have to maintain. Sometimes, the advice that we receive might not be able to bring a solution to our predicaments. At this juncture we have to go to God because He is all-knowing.
“Call to me and I will answer you and will tell you great and hidden things which you have not known”
God has perfect and accurate answers to those questions that we find difficult to answer. That is those mountains and predicaments that seem unconquerable and insurmountable. God is capable of leveling and making them plane ground.
Let’s take a look at the biblical injunction in Joshua 1:8
“This book of the law shall not depart out of your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall have good success.”
Those teething problems in our lives that make us confused should be solved through the Word of God that we read on a daily basis. Our prayer to God is a source of power. This is because the prayer of a righteous man avails much. Whatever we hear him say is final word and solution to the situation we may find ourselves in. Therefore, go for the Word of God with great courage and enthusiasm, and you will surely find results in your life.
