The Life Of A Believer In Christ – Pastor Chukwuemeka Charles Asiegbu

Life – In Christ A Believer’s Placement:

LifeLife: In Christ is a terminology that is commonly used by Apostle Paul in his entire epistles. And it reflects the position of a believer in Christ. Let’s take a look at these verses below.

“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation.”

2 Corinthians 5:17-18

The growth direction of Christianity

Here, verse number 18 is very specific on this issue. It says ‘all things (about the believer who is now in Christ) are of God. Meaning that whatsoever that has to do with the believer, should be found in God and shouldn’t be outside God. The entire being of the believer is located in no other place but God. This is true because God didn’t purchase the believer half-way. But through Christ He accomplished all needed requirements for the believer to belong to Him. See 1 Corinthians 6:20, Romans 8:32.

Grace is a standard for believers

The quotation in 2 Corinthians 5:17, stipulates that the place to be, is in Christ. This of course gives a perfect explanation that in Christ is a place. And if it is a place, is important to examine what is obtainable in this place called in Christ! A better understanding of the place in Christ will definitely enhance one’s knowledge of who he is in Christ. And will enhance him or her to do better in life as a believer in Christ.

Life In Christ Is A Reality:

This is because if one knows better he or she will actually do better. And if the reverse is the case definitely there’s going to be stagnated growth in the life of that individual. When one understands the environment where he lives, he will do great exploit within the environment. So, it is possible that one can be in an environment without having the right understanding of the environment. The result is that he will not know the resources that are available in the environment.

In Christ Is A Place

Yes actually, is important to be in an environment. But more importantly is the fact that the understanding of what works and goes on in the environment is needed. If not, the benefits he supposed to accrue by virtue of being in the environment will surely elude him. On the other hand, someone who doesn’t live in the environment may have greater insight in the happenings of the environment than the residence of the environment. This is simply because he has inclined and devoted himself to know the environment though he doesn’t live there.

The danger in this is that he may be ridiculed or bamboozled by someone who takes advantage of his ignorance. And the result of this in his life will be so much negative results. In all of these he may be bemused about the situation and the happenings around him. This is because he is yet to come to terms with the intricacies of the making of his environment.

Life In Christ Understand Your Environment:

It’s painful to realize that one has made himself a slave where he is supposed to be a master. Or he has made himself poor where he is supposed to be rich. I mean he allowed sickness to ravage his body and made a mess out of him while on the other hand he is supposed to live a life free of sickness. And is very disheartened to know that there are some treasures beneath your surroundings and you don’t know about them until you are very old in your life. If you have known about them early and better, life would have been better around you. And worse still is when an outsider comes around to harness those treasures right there before your very eyes!

The fact I want to reiterate here is that coming into Christ or being in Christ is very important. But it is also very important to understand what it means to be in Christ. If not, there is no way one can maximize the benefit of being in Him. There will be no distinctive and notable difference between he that is in Christ and the man that is outside Christ! Is important therefore, we understand the things that have been made available to us in Christ. And then assures our hearts that we will not by any means lose ground to any evil contender. See, 1 Corinthians 2:12.

The Nature of a Believer in Christ:

One of the things the believer should come to terms with is that in Christ he has received a new nature. I mean a nature that was not there before. This nature is not like a refurbished item, or a modification of something. No, it is a new nature entirely and has no link with whatever that was there before this time. It is important to note that the unbeliever lives a life that is powered by his senses or naturals as it were. So he sees and conducts his life by what he sees and observes. So the unbeliever is a product of his flesh or environment. And therefore must conduct his life by what gave birth to him because…

“That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.”

John 3:6

The flesh in this quotation doesn’t mean body but natural born. So an unbeliever is a natural man, who goes about living within the whims of what nature offers to him. This natural man cannot and will never understand the things of the Spirit as Apostle Paul puts it this way.

“But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.”

1 Corinthians 2:14

Life In Christ Is Not Natural:

However, once this natural man receives and accepts the message of the finished work of Christ which is anchored on His death, burial and resurrection. The acceptance of this message catapults him to the realm of spiritual birth. Instantly he is born of the spirit. This transfer takes place because of the seed of the message which is spiritual and abides in him. He is now living by what the seed in him bears and produced out of him. Therefore, he is born of the spirit and as a result he is spiritual. The currency to operate in this realm is called faith. And it is powered by knowledge. The lack or the availability of knowledge can make a believer to be weak or strong in faith.

So he doesn’t live his life based on what he observes and that which his eyes can see. But based on what his spiritually enlightened eyes can see which is always beyond the sensory realm.  Now, this man will start talking differently from the man he used to be. And also his attitude towards things will begin to change from the usual. This starts to take effect because the Spirit inside him will carve out a culture for him called spiritual culture. This culture is entirely a visible paradox from what is obtainable from a man born of the flesh. Therefore, the life of a man in Christ is a paradox to the life of a man that is in flesh.
