The Presence Of God Was Not In The Holiest Of All – Talking Christianity

Holiest Of All:

Holiest Of AllThe holiest of all is one of the partitions of the sanctuary in the Old Testament practices. There is this believe that the holiest of all is the most secret place in the sanctuary. This is because no one else enters into it except the high priest. An expression which indicates that no one knows what the making and activities in the holiest of all were except the high priest. The law stipulates that the high priest should go into the holiest of all once in every year. And he goes in there not without the blood of animal sacrifice for his sins and of his people Israel.

“But into the second went the high priest alone once every year, not without blood, which he offered for himself, and for the errors of the people.”

Hebrews 9:7

The secrecy surrounding the holiest of all is based on the assumption and perception that it’s the place God dwells. As a result, anyone that goes into the holiest of all except the high priest has sentence himself to death. The presence of God in the holiest of all will strike to him dead. So the holiest of all was the scariest place for the children of Israel. And because of the kind of fear generated around its existence the high priest goes in there with great fear. In fact stories have it that it is not guaranteed that every high priest that goes into the holiest of all will come out of it alive.

There Is No Record Of Any Priest That Died In The Holiest Of All:

The above are make up stories because no record in the bible of any high priest that died in the holiest of all. The impression that this teaching wants to correct is the assumption surrounding the spiritual nature of it.  And also the fact that God’s presence dwells in it. Therefore, for this to take place is important we see what Jesus said in the gospel about the entire temple.

“But I say unto you, That in this place is one greater than the temple.”

Matthew 12:6

This article is very interesting “The Growth Direction Of Christianity”

Jesus said that He is greater than the temple. Which means that the entire temple put together cannot be equated to Him. This tells a lot about the value, honor, and respect placed on the temple. It shows that whatever regard and value attached to the temple was just an impression created by religiously based assumptions. This implies that the temple is not the real temple of God, it was just symbolic.

However, any cogent interpretation of what happened in the Old Testament should be seen by what the Holy Spirit says about it in the New Testament. Jesus speaking in the gospel of John says that;

“Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you. All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto”

John 16:12-15

The Revelation Of Holiest Of All Is With The Holy Spirit:

From the above quotations we can deduce that it is only what the Holy Spirit says that is considered to be true. And the sayings of the Spirit are found in the epistles. This is clear because the epistles reveal the obscure things that happened in the Old Testament. So we can clarify the doubts surrounding anything in the Old Testament in the New Testament. Let’s see what the book of Hebrews has for us.

“Then verily the first covenant had also ordinances of divine service, and a worldly sanctuary.”

Hebrews 9:1

Know why the grace of God is a must for every Christian HERE

The sanctuary is called earthly or worldly meaning in a sense; it lacks what it takes to assert on it a spiritual tag. The word earthly or worldly as the case may be signifies that the activities conducted in the temple are not indeed spiritual. And this means that the activities are of no spiritual value to the people. This statement is true because all the activities conducted in the temple didn’t bring sanctification to the people. No sin was forgiven! What is called the holiest of all is not really the holiest of all because at this time the way to the holiest of all was not made possible.

“The Holy Ghost this signifying, that the way into the holiest of all was not yet made manifest, while as the first tabernacle was yet standing”

Hebrews 9:8

Know why God is not in control of this world HERE

God Does Not Impose Himself To People:

Holiest Of AllThere is a striking statement in the above quotation that we should not ignore. And that is “while as the first tabernacle was yet standing”. This statement shows that the existence of that temple was just a formality. It shows that all the fuss about the activities conducted in the temple is just baseless. The next verse tells us this as stated below.

“Which was a figure for the time then present, in which were offered both gifts and sacrifices, that could not make him that did the service perfect, as pertaining to the conscience; Which stood only in meats and drinks, and divers washings, and carnal ordinances, imposed on them until the time of reformation.”

Hebrews 9:9-10

This statement “imposed on them until the time of reformation” in quotation above means that the activities were imposed on them. It wasn’t something of freewill or believe. The main reason God wasn’t there and in their activities is because it wasn’t done of freewill of the participants. The truth is that God doesn’t impose things on people! The significance of this statement is that it shows that God wasn’t involved in the activities in the holiest of all. And if anybody had died as presumed in the stories the person died out of fear. The presence of God doesn’t invoke fears but peace. Since the activities were imposed it implies that they are mere religious activities. And as religious activities their end product is fear and imperfection.

Everything Done Under The Holiest Of All Is Imperfect:

Notice, what is said in the verse below;

“For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins. Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein; which are offered by the law;”

Hebrews 10:4, 8

This teaching is very insightful “The Revelation Of The Prototokos”

The statement above nullified every activity carried out in the holiest of all. This shows that the holiest of all is not the plan of God for man.

This is why God had to intervene to bring in that which will bring in peace and perfection. And this should be done through and by the temple He has prepared as stated here below.

“Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me.”

Hebrews 9:5

The perfect plan of God is Christ. This is because in Christ is the perfect sanctuary and in Him is the perfect priest. And in His blood is the perfect blood to cleanse the sin of the entire world.

Jesus Christ Is The Perfect High Priest:

“But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building. Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us. For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh.

“How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.”

Hebrews 9:11-15

And on that very day Jesus died on the cross as the perfect sacrifice the curtain of the holiest of all tore into two places. In fact through this, it shows the world that there is nothing special about the holiest of all. That God has nothing to do with the holiest of all; the tabernacle of God cannot be made with hands. God has tabernacle in a man. The spirit/heart of man is the holiest of all where the presence of God dwells.
