The Nature Of A Believer
Nature of the Believer:
The complexities surrounding the nature / description of a believer have made it possible for people to misunderstand who a believer is. And even believers have given themselves wrong descriptions because they lack the knowledge of who they are. In this topic we are going to painstakingly and profoundly look into it.
The best platform to have a detail exposal of the nature of the believer is the Scripture. Surely, by the time we round up this topic, there will be an all-inclusive knowledge of who a believer is. And of course if you are a believer, you will certainly know the stuff you are made of.

Case Study Text:
“And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so. And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good.”
(Genesis 1:11-12) KJV

There are three major things we should not ignore as we proceed in this topic. And they are:
- It is an understandable fact that before someone says he or she is a believer he or she must have believed in something.
- The nature of what they believe makes the believer who /what they are.
- Again, to understand the making of the believer, one must understand the making of what or who he or she believes.
The Source Produces The Nature:
Therefore, it is not possible to separate the nature of a believer from his or her source. The nature of the believer must as a matter of fact emanate from who gave birth to him or her. This is because your nature must come from your source.
In the book of Genesis chapter 1:11-12, the bible says that God said
“Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so. And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good.”
In the quotation above, there is a seed and its kind and the word kind specifically makes the seed unique. Also it shows that the seeds that God produce are of different classes and are unique in their nature. However, we can see from the quotation above that trees proceed from seeds. Which implies that in each seed is a tree no matter how small the seed appears.
And in some cases these small seeds contains gigantic tree in them. Therefore, the history of any tree cannot be complete without mentioning the source of the tree which is the seed. This is to say that the seed is the source of the nature of the tree. Also, if one wants to eliminate any kind of tree the process is to eliminate the seed that produces it. And inasmuch as the seed continues to exist, there must be that kind of tree.
In Him, In Whom And Whosoever:
Having said that let’s see how one can become a believer:
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?

The quotations above have some similarities in them and that is the word in whom (the begotten son) to believe. We also have the word in him and whosoever. The whosoever has to believe in whom/in him in order to be a believer. But importantly is that the whosoever must hear about the whom (the begotten son) before believing in the whom. This suggests that the way the whosoever will believe is by hearing.
And if he or she didn’t hear anything about the whom there is no way he or she will believe. Therefore if that is the case, there will be no believer. On this note, it is correct to say that the whosoever becomes a believer by hearing words. And it is the word that gives birth to the believer because it is by the word he became a believer. Let’s see John 1:12
“But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.”
Here we have seen that there is someone to believe. And if one believes in Him, he or she that believes becomes a son of God. However, one has to hear and then believe, the word becomes the seed that gives birth to sons of God. So anyone who hears the word and believes becomes a son to God. Let’s see some proofs from Apostle James and Peter.
“Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.”
Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.
This teaching will open hour eyes to certain realities: God Is Not In Control of This World
Apostle Peter says that the word is an “incorruptible seed” and Apostle James calls it “the word of truth”. So the word that produces sons of God is incorruptible and is the word of truth. This shows that the believer who is now the son of God is by nature an incorruptible being. And this is correct because the nature of the word is incorruptible. Furthermore, Apostle Peter uses the word “being born again”. The statement suggests that the believer was firstly born as a natural man before being born of the word of truth. It also explains that a believer can be referred to as born-again.
Jesus speaking to Nicodemus He said:
“Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.”
The Nature of Believer Is Spiritual:
Interestingly, the word here again is referred to as the spirit by Jesus. The only way to believe in the Son of God is by hearing the message of the Son of God. It is not just hearing but believing it is mandatory. So, when one receives the word, the Spirit of sonship enters him and instantly he becomes a son of God. So the only way for the Spirit to enter someone is by word. Let’s see Ezekiel:
“And the spirit entered into me when he spake unto me, and set me upon my feet, that I heard him that spake unto me.”

From the quotation above is very clear that the spirit enters through the word and gives birth to born-again people called believers. These are the ones called sons of God because they hear the word and accept the spirit of the word.
There are three things to deduce from the texts above and they are:
- The nature of the believer is incorruptible
- The nature of the believer is truth
- And the nature of the believer is spiritual.
