Denominationalism – Is Christ Divided?
Denominationalism – “Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am of Paul; I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ. Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul?
1 Corinthians 1:12-13
The spirit of denominationalism is not of God. It the spirit of division, which make you (believer) to say I am of Paul, I am of peter, I am of Apollos etc. The question is, is there division in Christ? Then you are puff up for one minister of God against another minister of the same God, of course, this is not encouraging. And it is disheartening to know that sometimes, we exalt one man of God to heaven and thrust another man of the same God to hell.
You love Peter but you hate Paul. And then you are proud of Paul but ashamed of Apollos. You honour your Pastor but say or think whatever pleases you of another Pastor whom you claim is not yours. This is how evil the spirit of denominationalism can be. But Paul by the spirit of God would say;
“and these things brethren i have in a figure transferred to myself and to Apollos for your sake; that you might learn in us not to think of men above that which is written, that no one of you be puffed up for one against another, whether Paul, or Apollos or Cephas; all are yours.”
1 Corinthians 4:6, 3:22.

Denominationalism Is Not Your Call:
However, it is important to know that every true minister of God has only one calling and that is to minister to the church and not just a particular denomination. The Corinthian church had this testimony of “being behind in no gift”. 1 Corinthians 1:7. The gifts of the spirit were in full operation there, yet Paul declared them carnal because of the topic we are handling here. No matter how spiritual you appear, no matter how greatly it shows that God uses you, as long as you give a place to the spirit of denominationalism in your life. The Holy Ghost says you are yet carnal.
Today we have many denominations everywhere defending their own and not the course of the Lord Jesus Christ, preaching their own righteousness, if possible creating their own heaven and hell, to cast whoever they will into their own hell. I listened to the pastor of a particular denomination saying to his members that it is wrong for them to sit and listen to anyone criticizing their own man of God.
He explained it is just like they allowing someone to urinate into their pot of soup. Note: he did not say “a man of God” he said “your own man of God” which implies every one have “their own man of God”. And they are all out to defend and whatever happens to other ministers of God is not their business since those are not “their own man of God”.

All Seek Their own:
Let everyone defend their own man of God. So what matter here is not “God” but “their own”. This is the way the bible puts it: “For all seek their own and not the things which be the Lord Jesus Christ’s” Philippians 2:21. All these they do in the name of God. They create their golden calf and proclaim: “these be your gods, O Israel, which brought you out of Egypt”. Exodus 32:4.
And falsely and forcibly they kill God’s servants in the name of God thinking they do him service (John 16:2). How many ministers of God have you stoned, how many of them have you killed in the spirit of denominationalism – because they are “Paul” but you are “of Apollos”
Truth is Christ is not divided. There is just one body (church) and one Spirit, one hope, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and father of all, who is above all, through all and in all saints regardless of the denomination to which they belong (Ephesians 4:4-6). God knows them that are his; as many as are saved, as many as are washed in the blood of Jesus, as many as are in Christ (not in denomination).

The Focal Point Is Christ Not Humans:
Christ alone is the object of saving faith and if today your faith is not in him alone you are lost and might be lost forever. No matter your denomination except you turn to him now. Christ alone is the new covenant, Christ alone is the gospel, and Christ alone is the saviour. Also, He is the healer, sanctifier and the baptizer and the coming king. He alone is the way, the truth and the life of God.
Dear reader where do you stand? – On the Lord’s side or “your church” side?
Do you seek God’s own or your own.
Every true Christian should detest the spirit of denominationalism. This is because, denominationalism kills and dismantles the bond of unity in and among the believers in the Christian fold.
